Mentors: Mr. Wayne Dennis and Mrs.
Laurie Dennis POP Nature’s Warriors consists of five teammates; three third graders and two fourth graders. We have two coaches and two mentors. Each member, coach and mentor of the team is an invaluable asset to the team bringing their unique skill sets and viewpoints, which have helped make our first year of Robotics such a fun and rewarding experience.
When asked what they think of Robotics, the overwhelming response from the teammates is that it is fun, they enjoy working together as a team and making new friends, and they like programing and building the robot. The teammates truly enjoy being together and, as coaches and mentors, it has been wonderful to watch their friendships grow.
Robotics is a very time intense program. In light of this, there is a lot of time, organization skills, teaching skills and a fair amount of stress involved in coaching and mentoring a Robotics team. Even so, each one of the coaches and mentors has thoroughly enjoyed their work and has a strong commitment to helping the team reach its goal. While no coach or mentor was proficient at the beginning of the semester in computer programming, two are quite adapt now!
POP Nature’s Warriors’ won second place in the FIRST Lego League Game Competition at the Qualifier held on December 14th at The University of Texas at Dallas. They will compete at the Regionals held at Hockaday School on February 1st.
